Albert E. “Gene” Gibson, 83, of Mooreland passed away Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital. He was born April 20, 1935 in Wayne County to the late Howard and Sara (DePew) Gibson.
Gene is a veteran of the U.S. Army. He and his wife, Judy loved traveling and visited all 50 states. Alaska was his favorite place to go. Gene loved people and kids, and never met a stranger. He loved visiting with family and friends and would always give his definite opinion. He enjoyed mowing and tinkering around the farm on his tractor. Gene was a wood worker and made toys and furniture, he made several pieces of furniture for their home. He attended Mt. Pleasant United Brethren Church and volunteered at Wilbur Wright Birth Place and he helped build the barn and the Main street area. Gene was a 50 year member of the Hagerstown Masonic Lodge #49 and Sea High Rite, Indianapolis Valley.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Judith (Henderson) Gibson of Mooreland, brother, Walter Gibson of Warren, nephews, Chris (Lori) Gibson of Losantville; Steve (Sandy) Townsend of Iowa; Brad (Robin) Henderson of Pendleton, Jim (Kerrie) Henderson of Pendleton; nieces, Sara, Beth, Lisa, Harriett, Anna Marie, Debbie and Wendy; brother-in-law, Don (Shirley) Henderson of Pendleton; cousin, Jim (Sylvia) Gibson of Connersville; special family, Bret, Kathy, Audrey and Austin; special friends, Don and Betty Mullenix and family of Oklahoma; Craig and Donna Fievet and family of Georgia; Charles and Chris Jordan and family of Georgia; many special friends and family here in Indiana.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty and Dick Carter, brother, Harry and Darlene Gibson, sister-in-law, Beverly Gibson, mother and father-in-law, Melvin and Juanita Henderson and 3 nephews.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 15, 2018 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastors, Paul Baty and Brad Henderson officiating. Entombment will follow in Elm Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 – 6 p.m. Sunday, October 14th with Masonic Rites at 5:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers donor may choose the charity of choice with envelopes available at the funeral home.
