Bernice K. Garrett

Bernice K. Garrett, 61, of New Castle, passed away Wednesday, February 7, 2024 in her home. She was born November 19, 1962 in Gadsden, AL, a daughter of the late Claude and Annie Allen.

A homemaker most of her life, she grew up in Alabama and graduated from Cherokee County High School there. An avid gamer, Bernice loved her grandchildren, who all lovingly called her Nana.
Loving, caring, warm-hearted, sweet, honest, cheerful and strong were a few words that her family used to describe her. She was the greatest Nana ever, and she never gave up!!

She leaves to cherish her memory, her seven children, Lateisha Garrett of GA, Lakeisha (Ronald) Lawrence of New Castle, Travis (Jennifer) Freeman of Gadsden, AL, Jermaine Torrence of Gadsden, AL, Daurice Waters of Gadsden, AL, Shatoya Henderson of Birmingham, AL, and William Patrick Henderson of Birmingham, AL; thirteen grandchildren, and one great grandson; four sisters and three brothers; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Saturday, February 10, 2024 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, February 11, 2024 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Rick Cottman officiating. Burial will take place at South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition on Monday. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Hospital for Children at StJude.org.
