Betty Lou Loyd, 89, of Spiceland, went to be with the Lord on Friday, December 23, 2016 at Glen Oaks Health Campus, following an extended illness. She was born June 7, 1927 in Henry County, Indiana, a daughter of the late Norbert Joseph and Nova Grace (Brown) Vogel.
A 1945 graduate of Knightstown High School, Betty worked as secretary at several places over the years, including Bostich Staple Co. and Mayflower in Indianapolis. She was also bookkeeper and librarian at Agape Learning Center in New Castle, worked in the Children’s Department at the New Castle/Henry County Public Library, and most recently, enjoyed volunteering at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield. She enjoyed sewing and reading, and was the primary caregiver for her grandmother and her mother. She most enjoyed spending time with family, especially her children and grandchildren.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 68 years, Ralph Loyd of Spiceland, whom she married September 4, 1948; five children, Michael Loyd (Diana Jenkins), of Jeffersonville, Mark (Doris) Loyd of New Paris, OH, Debbie (Mike) Denny of New Castle, Cheri (Bill) Vengley of Pismo Beach, CA, and David Loyd (Shanna Neely) of Spiceland; five grandchildren, Jodi Herr (Rusty Poore), Kati (Nathaniel) Carter, Jarrod (Genna) Borror, Andy (Casey) Denny, and Paul (Cynthia) Denny; great grandchildren, Garrett McDonald, Lauren McDonald, Zoe Unger, Quinn Borror, Tobias Denny, Jubilee Denny; one great-great grandchild, Nova Kern. Also, one brother, Norman (Rosalie) Vogel of Battlefield, MO; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Wanda Findora and Norberta Urenda; and a brother, Roy “Jim” Vogel.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 29, 2016 at the funeral home with Rev. Charles McDonald officiating. Burial will follow in East Hill Cemetery in Arlington.
