Carol J. Wright, of Shirley, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly on September 17, 2020 at the age of 84. She was born in 1936 in Greensburg, Pennsylvania to Wayne Topper and Alice (Johnston) Charley.
Carol attended Spiceland (Indiana) High School. It was during this time that she met Ray Wright. The two were wed on March 27, 1953 and had celebrated their 67th anniversary earlier this year.
Carol found a second calling in healthcare, returning to school at the age of 46 to pursue her degree in nursing. After becoming an RN she spend 15 years at Hancock Regional Hospital, sharing the same loving care she showered upon her family with countless patients. In 1996, she retired to care for her mother, until she passed away in 2002.
Family came first for Carol. She was always there for her kids and as her family grew, she loved to dote upon her many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. She was never happier than when she was surrounded by family. She was a wonderful cook, often preparing meals for over 50 people at her festive holiday gatherings.
Carol volunteered her time at the New Castle library, various community fundraisers, and was an active member of the Jane Ross Reeves Octagon House Foundation. She was also an accomplished seamstress, an avid reader, and an active member of Bible study groups and Kennard Baptist Church.
Carol reflected the love of her savior without pretense. The fifth chapter of Galatians describes the fruits of the spirit as love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Anyone who knew Carol loved her and could plainly see all of these qualities in her.
Carol is lovingly remembered by her husband, Ray, children Vicki Wright of Knightstown, Belinda (Duane) Kissick of Knightstown, Rebecca Wright of Greenfield, John (Cheryl) Wright of Shirley, Christine (Omar) Sandoval of Lubbock, Texas, Jeanna (Shane) Phipps of Indianapolis, 15 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, sister Rebecca Hammer of Shirley, and numerous nieces and nephews. All of these she loved and touched deeply.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Alice Louise Parks, and three brothers, Wayne, Ronald, and Dale Topper.
Services will be at 2:00 pm on Tuesday September 22, 2020 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel with burial to follow at Harlan Cemetery.
