Claude Kissick, 90, of New Castle, passed away Monday, January 29, 2018 at Glen Oaks Health Campus. He was born May 4, 1927 in New Castle, Indiana to the late Espie and Ollie (Baty) Kissick.
He was a 1945 graduate of Mt. Summit High School and veteran of the US Navy. Claude was a lifelong farmer and farmed at his current residence from 1946 until present. On September 4, 1942, Claude became a member of Springport Christian Church and served as an elder. He was a school bus driver for Mt. Summit, Springport and Blue River Valley Schools for 36 years. Claude has been a member of the Prairie Township Fire Department for 65 years and served as chief for 25 years. He also served on the Prairie Township Advisory Board, Farmers Elevator of Oakville board of directors and Blue River Valley Optimist Club. At one time Claude was an avid coon hunter. Claude loved his grandchildren, but especially his great grandchildren and was considered by his family and many others to be the finest man to ever walk the planet.
Survivors include his daughter, Nancy (Jerry) Kinzel-Rowland of Mt. Summit; son, Jeff (Dianne) Kissick of Rockville; grandchildren, Michael (Erin) Kinzel of Elkhart, Sarah (Adam) McNeill of Franklin and Kate (Caleb) Overpeck of Yorktown; eight great grandchildren; granddaughter-in-law, Danette Kinzel of Dalton, GA; several nieces and nephews; sister-in-law and special friend, Marilyn Kissick of Springport.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Kissick; son, Bradley Kissick; siblings, Esther Ratliff, Dorothy Mills and Donald Kissick; grandson, Scott Kinzel.
Services will be at 2:00p.m. Sunday, February 4, 2018 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Tad Mills officiating and Military rites conducted by the American Legion/VFW and U.S. Navy. Burial will follow in Mt. Summit Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-6p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
