Clifford Paul Simerly, 94, a lifetime resident of New Castle passed away Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at The Waters of New Castle. He was born November 5, 1919 in New Castle to the late Charles and Julia (Dunaway) Simerly.
Paul was a 1938 graduate of New Castle High School. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII. Paul served as a staff sergeant in the C.B.I. Theater and earned several accommodations and medals including two bronze stars. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Masonic Lodge #91 F. & A.M., New Castle York Rite Chapter #50, Council #53 and Commandry #44. Paul retired from Chrysler Corporation in 1984 following 44 years of service.
Paul is survived by a nephew: Bob (Liz) Simerly of New Castle; great nephews: Scott Simerly and Chris Simerly both of New Castle; second cousins: David (JoAnn) Hickman of Myrtle Beach and also Danny, Mark and Tony.
In addition to his parents, Paul is preceded in death by a brother: Howard Simerly and sister-in-law: Lucile Simerly.
Services will be at 1:00 PM Monday, July 7, 2014 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service with Reverend Jerry Ingalls officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion and VFW accompanied by an active duty contingent of the U.S. Army. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery West Lawn Addition.
