Darlene A. “Granny” Mason, 83, passed away surrounded by her loving family Tuesday March 31, 2020 at her residence. She was born April 26, 1936 in Henry County, a daughter of the late Joe Hileman and Hazel (Leisure) Whitaker.
Darlene was a graduate of Mt. Summit High School. She retired from Western Electric, but later worked as a cafeteria worker at the middle school. She loved traveling, shopping, being with her water lily buddies, laying in the sun, but mostly spending time with her grandbabies. Darlene was a member of South Memorial Drive Church of God and attended Foursquare Gospel Church. She loved the Lord and had strong faith.
Darlene is survived by two daughters, Robin (Dale) Abernathy of Mooreland, and Tammy (Chuck) Luellen of Straughn; grandchildren, Dale (Amber) Abernathy II, Darian (Jess) Abernathy, Nathan (Aria) Abernathy, Zach (Sheritan) Luellen, Mason (Erin) Luellen; eleven great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; sister in law, Donna Hileman; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents; loving husband of 53 years, Larry Mason, grandson, Jason Abernathy; two brothers, Jimmy and Jr. Hileman; and brother in law, Gene Mason.
Services will be held privately with Pastor Jim Becker officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hills Memory Gardens.
