Donald A. Snyder, age 85, of New Castle, won his greatest victory and went to heaven to be reunited with his bride and to see Jesus face to face, Monday, June 23, 2014 at Glen Oaks Health Campus. He was born October 30, 1928 in Ridgefarm, Illinois to the late Oscar A. and Gertrude (Louthan) Snyder.
Don married Deloris Lewis on June 27, 1947. He retired from Rose City Packing Company in 1990 where he had worked since 1963. He had also been employed at Beckers and Marsh. He was a member of First Church of the Nazarene, where he had served on the church board, president of Challengers Sunday school Class and drove the church van. He enjoyed NASCAR and Indy car racing. Don had a great sense of humor and loved visiting family and friends.
Survivors include his daughters, Delilah (Billy) Pierce of New Castle, Dianna (Dennis) Hamilton of New Castle and Denise (Barry) Abell of Mooresville; six grandchildren, Allan (Kim) Pierce of Spiceland, Douglas (Holly) Pierce, Derrick (Amber) Hamilton, Deven (Caroline) Hamilton and Danielle Hamilton all of New Castle, Nolan Abell of Mooresville; twelve great grandchildren; three brothers, Dwight (Louise) Snyder of Rantoul, Ill, Dale (Sheri) Snyder of Turtletown, TN, and Kay “Duke” (Vickie) Snyder of West Palm Beach, FL; a sister, Elizabeth (Ralph) Smith of Champaign, IL; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Deloris I. Snyder, February 25, 2011; brother, Kenneth Snyder.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 27, 2014 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastors Danny Goddard and Norwood Kreuzinger officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, June 26, 2014 at the funeral home.
