Donnie Ray Houser, 85, of Mooreland, passed away Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at his residence. He was born June 3, 1935 in Henry County, a son of the late Vaughn Jefferson and Fannie Fern (Howell) Houser.
Donnie graduated from Mooreland High School in 1953, where he played on the Mooreland Bobcats basketball team. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, stationed in Alaska, and was a lifelong farmer in Mooreland. He and his brother, Phil ran a custom hay-baling service for the entire community, which employed several local boys each and all summer long, keeping them out of trouble. He and Phil were also partners in Houser Brothers Gravel Service. He was known in his community as a good man and a friend to many.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Orlynn (Burton) Houser of Mooreland; brothers in law, Noel Burton, Rex Bales, Gene Bales; sisters in law, Anita Cable, Bonnie Collier and Jean Houser; step son, Rodney Boiles; several nieces, nephews and cousins; several step grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Jane Ellen (Bales) Houser; two sisters, Eileen Cool and Iris Jones; four brothers, Wilbur, Leon, Philip and Harold Houser; stepson, Robin Boiles and step daughter, Rita Hollars.
Graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m., Monday, December 14, 2020 at Mooreland Cemetery with Pastor Kevin Whitmore officiating. Friends and family may gather for visitation at 12:30 p.m. prior to the service.
