Edward L. Thompson, 87, of New Castle went to be with the Lord, Saturday, July 8, 2023 at his residence. He was born October 20, 1935 in New Castle, a son of the late Albert Arthur and Nora Edith (Hunter) Thompson.
A 1954 graduate of New Castle High School, Ed retired from Dana Corporation in Hagerstown in 1996 following 40 years of service. He was an active member of First Baptist Church in New Castle where he had served as Sunday School teacher, Elder and Deacon. He graduated from the U Management classes from Dana Corp. An avid golfer, Ed enjoyed riding his bicycle, traveling, and spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed listening to gospel music, especially the older hymns.
He leaves to cherish his memory, a son, Bruce A. (Rhonda) Thompson of Greenwood; two daughters, Robin A. (Doug Dorn) Broyles of New Castle, and Debra L. (Scott) Rollins of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Brooke (Zach) Gilles, Courtney Thompson, Dessa Rollins and Noah Broyles; great grandchildren, Maia and Libby; two sisters, Mary Lou Flowers and Kathleen Thompson, both of New Castle; a brother, Earl (Tina) Thompson of Port Charlotte, FL; brothers and sisters in laws, George and Zeta Carter, Greg McQueen, Jane Carter, and Bonnie Carter; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Blanche Thompson this past February; two brothers, Francis Thompson and Charles Thompson; two sisters, Norma Jean Fowler and Sara Thompson.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Jerry Ingalls and Rev. Jack Hannum officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be given to First Baptist Church of New Castle.
