Eleanor Painter, 74, of New Castle, passed away in her home on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born November 23, 1944 in Shirley, IN, a daughter of the late Addison “Lowell” and Catherine (Compton) Jessup.
A 1963 graduate of Spiceland High School, Eleanor attended Butler University in Indianapolis. She retired from Draper, Inc. in Spiceland, where she was secretary for over 25 years. She was a member of First Friends Meeting in New Castle for many years, and had recently been attending Spiceland Friends Meeting.
Eleanor was truly dedicated to her children’s and grandchildren’s activities over the years. She served as President of the New Castle Trojan Marching Band Boosters in the 1990’s and until recently served as President of the New Castle Choral Boosters. She enjoyed hosting family holiday gatherings as well as coordinating many fundraising events for different organizations with her children and grandchildren.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Don Painter of New Castle, whom she married January 18, 1970; daughters, Megan (Chris) Stilwell of New Castle, Hayley Painter of New Castle, and Melissa Painter of Lawrenceburg; two grandsons, Cormac and Dorian; three sisters, Sara Broadwater of Greenfield, Nancy Pennington of Indianapolis, and Joy Woodruff of Liberty; a brother, Max Jessup of Spiceland; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five sisters and two brothers.
A Celebration of Life service will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 16, 2019 at Spiceland Friends Meeting with Pastor David Brock officiating. Burial is in Circle Grove Cemetery in Spiceland. Eleanor’s family will be receiving friends from 1 p.m. until time of service at the church on Saturday. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle.
