Freida Louise Painter, 93, of New Castle passed away Tuesday, July 4, 2023 at Addison Place. She was born December 17, 1929 in New Castle to the late Otto Eugene and Beatrice Pauline (Cluggish) Dickerson. She married Roger Painter August 11, 1950 in New Castle.
Freida was a graduate of New Castle High School and Ball State University where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Education. In her earlier years, she was an English and Latin teacher at Mooreland High School. Following having children, she became a homemaker and farm wife, caring for her family. Freida was very active in many organizations and groups including, being a Girl Scout leader, a Farm Bureau District Leader, Indiana Dairy Association member, Henry County 4H, Henry County Youth Center, Young Life for Teens and Sunny Home Makers Home EC Club. She loved dancing and co-founded with her husband the Cornfield Cloggers and was also a member of the Raintree Promenaders Square Dance Club. She was an avid reader, enjoyed traveling, loved chocolate iced Jack’s Donuts, chocolate and hot coffee. Freida was a lifelong member of First Bible Free Will Baptist Church where she served in various capacities including VBS Director for many years. Since the 1950’s, Freida has enjoyed taking her family to the Indianapolis 500 every year. More than anything, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and family.
Freida is survived by her children, Judy (deceased, Jay) Venzin of Florida, Jeff (Cathy) Painter of Yorktown, Bruce (Megan) Painter of Fishers, Vickie (Shayne) Roberts of Wisconsin and Donna (Ron) Thompson of New Castle; 21 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren and 3 on the way; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Roger Painter; and a brother, Eugene Dickerson.
Visitation will be from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Monday, July 10, 2023 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 11 at the funeral home with Pastor Roby Wood officiating. Burial will follow at South Mound Cemetery-West Lawn Addition.
