George E. Hammonds, 96, a resident of New Castle passed away Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at Addison Place of New Castle. He was born May 17, 1927 in Indianapolis to the late Claude and Blanche (Hancock) Hammonds.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served as a Corporal during the Korean War. George retired from Chrysler Corp. in Indianapolis after 28 years of service. After retiring, he then worked at Circle City Auto Parts in Indianapolis. George was a member of the VFW and enjoyed NASCAR and IndyCar Racing. He also loved riding his motorcycle and vacationing at the beach.
Survivors include a daughter: Thresa Holden (Robert Pritchard) of Kerrville, TX; a son: Rev. Mike (Julie) Baldock of Spencer, IN; nine grandchildren: Rick, Tammy, Tracey, Rhonda, Aleisha, Ashley, Michael, Joe and Christie; twenty-two great-grandchildren; several great great-grandchildren; three brothers: Larry (Kathy) Hammonds of Indianapolis, Bob (Marilynn) Hammonds of Orlando, FL and Morris Hammonds of Noblesville, IN; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Mary Hammonds and a sister: Inez Hammonds.
Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Monday, November 13, 2023 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Rev. Mike Baldock officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition with military rites provided by contingents of the U.S. Army, American Legion and the VFW.
