Gilbert “Keith” Holder, 79, of Greensboro passed away Monday, April 24, 2023 at Henry Community Health. He was born February 19, 1944 in Parnell, Kentucky to the late Corbin Ray “Jack” Holder and Ollie (Bell) Blevins.
Keith was a graduate from Knightstown High School then joined the US Army for six years. While enlisted, he was stationed in Germany where he met and married the love of his life, Ilse “Inge” Lattich. Once being honorably discharged from the military, they moved back to Henry County to be close to Keith’s family and raise a family of their own. He had worked at Ingersoll Steel, Chrysler Corp. and retired from INDOT after 20 years of employment.
Keith was larger than life, never met a stranger, and always lived life on his terms in his own way. He was a dad, uncle, grandpa, friend and mentor to the entire community. Everyone seemed to know who Keith Holder was and knew he would do anything for anyone or give you the shirt off his back. He is who we all called if we needed help or had a question. Keith had a passion for animals and was an avid horseman owning countless draft horses, donkeys, mules and longhorn cattle. He used his love of horses by participating in parades, weddings, funerals, and wagon trains in the community. He attended as many activities of his family and grandchildren as he could. He was a “Pa” to many and loved getting his grandchildren and great grandchildren as many animals as possible, often sneaking away to the sale barn to make these purchases. Keith’s love of animals, more specifically horses, has been passed down through three generations. “Pa” was a patriarch and pillar to the family. His passing fills us with indescribable sadness, but we have peace in knowing the immeasurable love he had for us all.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ilse “Inge” Holder; children, Barbara (Michael) Lecher, Keith (Stacy) Holder; grandchildren, Clark (Ciara) Lecher, Elizabeth (Lucas) Hochstedler, Caleb Holder, Kelsi (David) McRoberts, Dalton (Emily) Engle and Jalen Lopez; great grandchildren, Brantley, Graci, Elise, Callie and 2 on the way; nephew, Curtis Hormel; siblings, Charlene (Steve) Sanders, Rick (Sheila) Holder, Jackie Bradshaw and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings, Violet Brown, Reynold “Ron” Holder and Barry Holder.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 29, 2023 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Burial will follow at Green Hills Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, April 28th at the funeral home. Military honors will be conducted by contingents from the US Army and the Knightstown American Legion Honor Guard.
