Helen D. Finnegan, 78, of New Castle, passed away Sunday evening, September 3, 2023 at Stonebrooke Rehabilitation Center. She was born January 9, 1945 in Muncie, a daughter of the late Albert and Edith (Arthur) Bales.
A 1963 graduate of Dunkirk High School, Helen enjoyed sewing and other forms of art, including diamond and ceramic painting. She also enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking, puzzles, and playing the organ. She worked for several years at Children's Education Center Daycare, and also for New Castle Schools, at Weir and Eastwood Elementaries, as well as Raintree Programs. She continuously decorated her home for each season, and for the holidays, and she loved her dogs.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Mark McKinney, Leon Cox, Molli Finnegan (Brian Engle), and Jon (Kathy) McKinney, all of New Castle; her grandchildren, Kyla Wilson (Rob) Donahoe, Allen (Akiko Lunaris), David Dunham, Kate and Claire Wallace, Dalton (Emily) Engle, Parker, Kyler, and Cooper Engle; great grandchildren, Brandilynn, Skyler, Jayci, Jordyn, Wyatt; two sisters, Mary (Scottie) Slusher of Greenfield, and Philenna Brookshire of Eaton, IN; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Finnegan, whom she married October 15, 1985; and three brothers, Paul, Gene, and Wayne Jones.
Services will be at 5:00 p.m., Friday, September 8, 2023 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Rev. John Case officiating. Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. Friday prior to the funeral service. Burial will be in Green Hills Memory Gardens at a later date.
