Illie “Jane” N. Hudson, 90, of Markleville slipped peacefully into the arms of Jesus on the afternoon of Friday, July 14, 2023 at Henry County Community Health in New Castle surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 14, 1933 in New Castle, a daughter of the late Estell O. and Rachel (Perdue) Neal.
Jane was a 1952 graduate of Sulphur Springs High School and upon graduation, she began working at Delco Remy in Anderson where she retired in 1995 following 43 years of service. Jane worked with some ladies that became her good friends. They would plan their annual trip to the Kentucky Derby and it’s believed that they even wore the Southern Belle Hats. Jane enjoyed traveling and every summer she and her family would make a road trip, traveling to a destination somewhere in the US. She also enjoyed bowling and gardening with her husband, Sammie.
Jane is survived by her daughter, Hope (Jesse) Diaz of Santa Clarita, CA; grandsons, Jonathan and Tyler Diaz; sister, Esther N. Taylor of New Castle and sister and caregivers, Sonja (Earl) Wilkinson of New Castle; niece and caretaker, Cindy (David) Piercy of New Castle; great niece and nephew and caregivers, Sonja and Isaac Piercy; best friend, Pat Peterson of Anderson; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Sammie Lee Hudson; brothers; Rillie (Joann), Ray (Joan) and Oliver Neal; sisters, Nona Ellen Neal, Ina (Claude) Hall, Belva Brummett, Dorothy (Floyd) Dunn, Dixie (Ewell) Spurlock and Brenda K. Neal; brother-in-law, Donald Taylor.
Services will be held at 7:00pm Tuesday, July 18, 2023 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Earl Wilkinson Jr. and Corey Fultz officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00pm until the time of service on Tuesday. Burial will be in South Mound Cemetery on Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be given to the Grace Covenant Church, 112 E.
