A very loved man passed on April 15th, 2019 at St. Franciscan Hospital in Indianapolis, from an extended illness. James William Bennett was not an ordinary man; in fact, those who met him would describe him as anything but. Born August 17th, 1941, he was charming, charismatic, and bold; he loved harder than most have the capacity for and he was a hero to many.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Jim Bennett and Erma Carr, as well as his loving wife of 45 years, Carolyn Sue Bennett. He will forever be remembered and cherished by his surviving family; current wife Susan Bennett, children Angela Cornwell (Partner Tula Mason) and Shawn Bennett (Wife Glenda Bennett), grandchildren Jonathan Jessee (Wife Brandi Jessee), Chelsea Tederick (Husband Marc Tederick), Ty and Hunter Bennett as well as a sister Sally Hatfield, a brother Mack Bennett, great-grandchildren and many others that his life touched.
He filled his time with helping raise grandchildren, playing oldies on the guitar, bowling, exploring the mountains and his passion in life, flea-marketing. James knew how to fill his time by making the most out of his years here and celebrating every day. In fact, he even drank Moonshine with Grandpa Jones from Hee Haw. Not many people have the pleasure of having someone like James Bennett bless their lives with strength, wisdom and empathy. While he will be missed and mourned, those of us who knew him, have the serenity of knowing that he graced us with unconditional love.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 18, 2019 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Burial will follow in Circle Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 – 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 17 at the funeral home. You may express condolences or share a memory of James at
