James “Bo” Bowen, 67, of New Castle, passed away Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at his residence following an extended illness. He was born September 3, 1949 in Watseka, IL, a son of the late Elmer and Ruth L. (Gaffield) Bowen.
A 1968 graduate of South Newton High School in Kentland, IN, Bo was kitchen manager and cook for several years at the Elks Bingo Hall, and also cooked at the Moose Lodge and the Eagles Lodge.
Bo loved people and life in general! He loved a good joke, and never met a stranger.
He is survived by his companion and soul mate, Jenny Enix of New Castle; a daughter, Heidi Murry, and her children, Lindsey Kyle, Jacob Kyle, Logan Kyle, Jack Murry, and Toby Murry; a son, Christopher (Lisa) Bowen of Frankfort, KY, and their children, Joshua Bowen, Sydney Bowen, and Faith Bowen; two sisters, Donna (Jim) Walters of New Castle, and Pauline (Joe) Brammer of Ft. Pierce, FL; a brother, Paul Bowen (Marjorie Martin) of Selma; and several nieces and nephews, who were all like children to Bo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Ruth Ann Whiteman, and her husband, Ora “Whitey” Whiteman.
Visitation for Bo will be from 3-6 p.m. Friday, December 9, 2016 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Services will follow at 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
