James R. Estes, 87, of New Castle died Saturday, May 18, 2013 at Heritage House of New Castle following an extended illness. He was born October 15, 1925 in Casey County, Kentucky the son of the late James and Julia Estes.
A longtime resident of New Castle, James was a veteran of the United States Navy having served during World War II. He was an electrician by trade and member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
Survivors include a daughter: Gayle (Lonnie) Davis of New Castle; three grandchildren: Stacey Groce of New Castle, Bryan Davis and Randy (Melissa Guffy) Davis both of San Diego, CA; two great grandchildren: Tanner Groce and Nolan Hurley both of New Castle; a sister: Virginia (Bill) Lawshe of Alabama; two sisters-in-law: Bernice (Charles) Polston; Velma Presnall; four brothers-in-law: Jerry (Mickee) Wilson, Cecil Hinton, Bob Shopp, and Jim Tuttle; several cousins, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Wyrdus Estes; a daughter: Rita Faye Estes; two brothers: Clyde and Carl Estes.
Services will be at 11:00 AM Thursday, May 23, 2013 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverend Richard Davis officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 PM Wednesday. You may express a condolence or share a memory of James at
