Janet Lee Sparks, 72, of Shirley, passed away Saturday, November 5, 2022. She was born April 28, 1950 in Rushville, a daughter of the late Donald George and Norma Lee (McDaniel) Gray.
A 1968 graduate of Rushville High School, Janet earned a bachelor’s degree in Education from Milligan College in 1972 and later her Master’s degree from Ball State University. She taught school for 40 years with the Charles A. Beard School System, teaching elementary at Kennard. A longtime member of Wilkinson Church of Christ, she enjoyed actively participating in church activities and attended Bible Study Fellowship for several years.
She was an encourager to many family and friends, always one to be there with a meal and an encouraging word. She loved supporting her grandchildren in their endeavors, and sharing her memories by creating stories of her past that were published monthly in The Courier-Times.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of over 50 years, whom she married May 19, 1972, Michael Lee Sparks of Shirley; a daughter, Jessica (Mike) Lowe of Greenfield; a son, Lance (Monica) Sparks of Carthage; grandchildren, Bradley Lowe (fiancé, Jordan Ventresco) of Greenfield, Allison Lowe of Greenfield, Daniel Sparks, Levi Sparks, and Taylor Sparks, all of Carthage; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Brian Gray and a sister, Marilyn Roberts.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 10, 2022 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel with Pastor Anthony Darling officiating. Burial will follow in Center Christian Cemetery in Rush County. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
