Joan F. Blevins, 76, of New Castle passed away Saturday, November 2, 2013 at her residence following a brief illness. She was born August 5, 1937 in Murfeesboro, Tennessee to the late Ervin Edward Wyatt and Mary Frances Rush Wantz.
She was a 1955 graduate of New Castle Chrysler High School and later attended floral school. Joan had worked at Kresge's, Coy-Brummett's in New Castle, and Western Electric in Indianapolis and Reading, Pennsylvania where she retired after 36 years of service. After retirement, she worked various jobs. She was a former member of the Eagles Lodge and Eagles Ladies Auxiliary for many years. Joan loved being with family, and especially spending time with her grandchildren. She also loved gardening, being outdoors and playing cards.
She is survived by three children: Noel Blevins of Richmond, Joe (Amy) Blevins of Dunreith, Candy McClure of New Castle; eight grandchildren: Amiee Blevins (Clay Christal), Noel "Buddy" Blevins (Trish), Angel (Jeff) Wilkerson, Jeremy (Ann) Eden, Erica Blevins, Jenny McClure, Ryan Blevins, and Christina Whitehurst; seven great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; a sister: Barbara Hill of New Castle; three special nieces: Teresa Lloyd of Summitville, Elisa Idlewine (Tony) of Alexandria, Jane Gundlach (Ed) of West Bloomfield, Michigan; special nephew: Steve Dobbs of New Castle; and an uncle and aunt: Jessie and Carol Rush of Gas City.
In addition to her parents, Joan is preceded in death by a son: Troy Blevins; step father: Howard Wantz; granddaughter: Jessy McClure; and a special nephew: Rich Lloyd.
Services will be at 1:00 PM Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service with Reverend Jerrie Wood officiating. Burial will follow at South Mound Cemetery-West Lawn Addition. Friends may call from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM on Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Stephen Troy Blevins or Jessy Lee McClure Scholarship Funds through the Henry County Community Foundation or envelopes available at the funeral home.
