John D. Harris, Jr., 61, of Indianapolis, passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2020 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield. He was born on September 30, 1958 in Rockford, IL, a son of the late John D. and Mary Evelyn (Newnum) Harris, Sr.
John was a 1976 graduate of Greenfield Central High School and obtained a certification in business from IUPUI. John had been employed by American States Insurance from 1978-2000, and was then employed as a security guard, which he enjoyed very much, with Caito Foods and Thomas Protective Services from 2000-2013.
John is survived by two brothers, Tom (Cathy) Harris of Plainfield, IN and James Harris of Paulding, OH; nieces and nephew, Megan Harris of Greenfield, IN, nephew, Chris (Sayuri) Harris of Vienna, VA and niece, Meredith (Cody Sherrier) Harris of Carmel, IN; great niece and nephew, Ariana and Hiro Harris.
John was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Burial will take place in Asbury Cemetery near Shelbyville, IN. The family plans for a memorial service at a date to be determined, that may be attended by the public. You may share a condolence or memory of John at www.hinsey-brown.com .
