L. Rex Criswell Sr., 83, of New Castle went home to Heaven on Friday, October 15, 2021 at Henry Community Health. He was born on February 7, 1938 in Mt. Pisgah, Kentucky to the late Alvin Jason and Amanda (Simpson) Criswell.
He thoroughly enjoyed singing and playing gospel music on his guitar. Rex was a talented carpenter and wood worker for many years. He was a faithful member of Grace Baptist Church and loved talking to people about the Lord. Rex also had great times with many friends fishing at Westwood and Summit Lakes.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene Thompson Criswell; sons, Rex (Kathy) Criswell, Donald (Beth) Criswell, David (Stephanie) Criswell; step son, Gene (Jeanie) Thompson; grandchildren, Natalie (Dominick) LaMonte, Nathan (Alicia) Criswell, Katie (Paul) Cronenwett, Andrew (Samantha) Criswell, Jonathan Criswell and Lauren Criswell; 9 great grandchildren; brothers, Fred (Shirley) Criswell, Gene (Joyce) Criswell, Timothy (Donna) Criswell, Joe (Pat) Criswell; sisters, Louise Crabtree, Lorraine Hurt, Barbara (Ed) Mullens, Rose Mary Fisher, Kay (Steve) Watkins and Darlene Runyon and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Estill and James Criswell and a sister, Evelyn Williams.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Donald Criswell and Brian Neal officiating. Burial will follow at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Friday, October 29 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Grace Baptist Church.
