Mr. Larry Duane Clapp Sr.

Larry Duane Clapp Sr., 80, of New Castle passed away on Tuesday, October 17, 2023. He was born May 18th, 1943 in Henry County to the late Grover Cleveland and Mary K. (Barbee) Clapp Sr..

Larry attended Mt. Summit High School, after high school he joined the U.S. Army. He served his country for 8 years and became a Drill Instructor. Larry served over seas in Vietnam where he was awarded 2 purple hearts. After his time in the military Larry went to work as a milk man at Bestever Dairy then at Warner Gear where he retired from. He farmed livestock throughout his life. He was the sexton of Mt: Summit cemetery for 8 years. Larry was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Shriners, and Scottish Rite. He always had some quick wit to throw your way.

Larry is survived by his children, Daryl (Dawn) Shannon, Tammy (Terry) Lybarger, Larry (Stephanie) Clapp Jr., Jerry (Kellie) Clapp; son in law, Jason (Jessica) Brattain; 1 sister Jean (George) Spence; 1 brother, Don (Sandy) Clapp; grandchildren, Blake, Cory, Cassidy, Shelby, Jessie Ann; 7 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Betty Clapp and daughter Brenda Brattain; 4 brothers Charles Clapp, James Thomas Clapp, George Clapp, and Grover Cleveland Clapp Sr.; 2 sisters RoseMary (Clapp) Beacon and Daisy (Clapp) Norris.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 20th, 2023 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Burial will follow at Mt. Summit Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the funeral home with Brad Hacker officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, P.O.
