Larry E Thompson passed away on Saturday, April 19, 2014 after a long battle with lung cancer. He was born in New Castle on July 4, 1941 to the late Wendell and Martha Louise Thompson.
Larry married the love of his life, Darlene Upchurch, on June 6, 1966. They had one son, Gene Thompson, whom Larry was so proud of. They both survive along with their grand dog, Davey.
He attended Hagerstown High School and received his GED years later. He had attended Calvary Baptist Church for several years.
Larry loved watching football and the NFL Channel. He also loved blue grass music and enjoyed going to Albany, KY to visit with family and friends. He loved going to auctions and had worked for Larry Stewarts Auction for several years. He had worked at Ingersoll Steel and managed a Sunoco Station for four years but most of his working years was spent running his own painting and wallpapering business.
Other survivors along with his wife and son include his mother-in-law, Emogene Bowers; sister-in-law, Connie Privett, Cathy (Ed) Stevenson and Lois (Jeff) Herburt; brother-in-law, Jim (Vivian Armantrout) Upchurch, Jay (Angie) Upchurch and Jeff (Rebecca) Upchurch. Also several aunts and cousins including a special cousin, Walter Thompson, who was like a brother to Larry. Special friends, Fred and Rex Criswell.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers-in-law, Len Upchurch and Ed Privett; nephew, John Upchurch; fathers-in-law; Orville Upchurch, Jack Wolfe, and David Bowers and also many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Services will be 11:00AM Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Bobby Slagle officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery- West Lawn Addition. Friends may call from 5-8PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the Calvary Baptist Church or The Little Red Door with envelopes available at the funeral home.
