Leonidas “Leon” Loveless, age 80, from New Castle, passed away Tuesday, September 13, 2016 surrounded by his loving family following an extended illness. He was born June 6, 1936 in Cains Store, Kentucky to the late Ottis and Nina (Dye) Loveless.
Leon had been employed at Marhoefer Packing in Muncie for 20 years, and then Duffy Tool and Stamping in Muncie for 18 ½ years, where he retired. He was a member of Ninth Street Church of God. Leon was the Loveless family historian. He enjoyed breeding and raising mules and donkeys, Jack Russell terriers, and various birds. He was very knowledgeable and interested in politics usually working the polls on election day. Leon was a member of the NRA. He took a special interest in all of the children in the family, and gave special nicknames to many family members and friends. He enjoyed old fashioned gardening, using his mules for plowing.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Loveless of New Castle; children, Valando “Val” (Deborah) Loveless of Dugger, Melody (Mike) Strelecky of Springport, Charity Loveless of Mt. Summit, and Jerome (Brooke) Loveless of New Castle; grandchildren, Lucas “Cowboy” Loveless of New Castle, Katie “Katie Bugs” Loveless of Dugger, Travis “Travo the Great” Strelecky of Springport, Tanner “Porcupine” Strelecky of Springport, Dalton “Cat” Loveless of Dugger, Samantha “Sami Sue” Loveless of Mt. Summit, Jillian “Jelly Bean” Strelecky of Springport, Ava “Chigger” Loveless of New Castle, and Finton Rome “Sonny Man” Loveless of Mt. Summit; brothers, Howard Loveless of Nancy, KY, Marvin (Geraldine) Loveless of Hartford City, Curt (Chris) Loveless of Nancy, KY, Louie Loveless of Science Hill, KY, Gale (Bessie) Loveless of Nancy, KY, Dub (Carol) Loveless of Nancy, KY; sisters, June Tarter of Nancy, KY, and Carrie Marnhout of Whitley City, KY; sister-in-laws Gesila, Westland, MI and Dean Loveless, Somerset, KY and many loved nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Dane, Doyle, Osh, Marion, James, and Weldon Loveless.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with burial to follow in South Mound Cemetery-West Lawn Addition. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday, September 16, 2016 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the Ninth Street Church of God, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
