Lewis E. Riddle, 73, of Shirley, passed away Saturday, September 7, 2019 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born May 19, 1946 in New Castle a son of the late Jesse and Mada (Stailey) Riddle.
Lewis was a well known painter and drywaller around the Knightstown area. He retired from the Indiana Soldiers and Sailors Children’s Home in 2002 after 36 years of service. The community of Knightstown has lost a true craftsman, having worked on many homes in the area over the years. Lewis attended the Greensboro Church of the Nazarene. He enjoyed woodworking, watching sports, especially the Colts and Pacers, and sitting on the porch with his dog, Sophie.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Judy Riddle of Shirley; children, Scott Riddle of New Castle, Alison Erwin of Shirley, Jesse Riddle of Knightstown, and Levi Riddle of Shirley; grandchildren, Cole Erwin of Mt Summit, Kiley Erwin of Shirley, Shelby Hensley of Covington, KY; great grandsons, Carter Riddle and Isaiah Hensley; two sisters, Phyllis Harris of Spiceland and Avis Hughson of New Castle; sisters-in-law, Melba Riddle of Greensboro, Susan (Jim) Moulden of Washington, IN and Sherry Davis, Monroe City, IN; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Lewis was preceded in death by his first wife, Beverly Ebbert Riddle; infant brother, James Donald and brother, Max Riddle; in-laws, Clarence and Barbara Carey of Washington, IN.
Services will be at 11:00 AM Thursday, September 12, 2019 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel with Reverends Randy Perry and Gene Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation will be from 6-9 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Condolences and memories of Lewis may be shared at
