Lonnie James Duvall, 74, of New Castle passed away Friday, October 4, 2019 peacefully after an extended illness. He was born February 17, 1945 in Ft. Benning, GA the son of Dewy D. and Warna (Zeilinger Ebensperger) Duvall.
A life time New Castle resident, he graduated from New Castle High School and attended IV Tech in Muncie where he graduated with honors. Lonnie worked as a telecommunication Technician in Michigan and retired from New Castle Chrysler Corp. as an electrician after 33 years of service.
Lonnie served 4 years with the US Army, where he served with the 101st Radio Research Company, SP5 Army Security Agency, two years in Vietnam as an Armed courier and 05G20 Comomonitor. He received the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal, Sharpshooter Badge, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal. Lonnie was a life time member of the American Legion and VFW. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and jokester. He always wanted to make people laugh “whether they were laughing at me or with me.” Lonnie loved traveling with his wife and would frequently visit military reunions and friends. One of his biggest joys in life was working side by side with his son at Chrysler, as both were electricians.
He is survived by his wife, Rhea Duvall; son, Christopher (wife, Lisa) Duvall; daughter, Jill Duvall both of New Castle; step-sons, Michael (wife, Tina) Merchant of New Castle and Ronald Merchant (companion, JL) of Muncie; brothers, Boyd Duvall, Juan Duvall and Brian Duvall all of New Castle; grandchildren, Ashley Lewis, Taylor Chatterson Nichole Chatterson, Taylor Merchant and Justin Merchant and 6 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Renee Duvall, brothers, Monte, Lynn and Nathan Duvall.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral service in New Castle. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition with military rites conducted by a contingent of the US Army, American Legion and VFW.
