Marilyn Cole

Marilyn Cole, 89, of New Castle passed away Monday, October 25, 2021 at Rawlins House in Pendleton. She was born April 16, 1932 in New Castle, Indiana, a daughter of the late Irl H. and Georgia Hazel (Jennings) Miller.

Marilyn was a graduate of New Castle High School and retired from Dana Corporation in Hagerstown. She was an active, longtime member of Chicago Corner Christian Church and a member of Altrusa. Marilyn resided in California for a short time following her mother’s passing before returning to Indiana where she was raised by her mother’s best friend, Theodosia Davis. She especially enjoyed spending winters in Florida with her husband Melvin, along with many friends.

Survivors include her daughters, Julie (Michael) Hutchens of New Castle and Lori (Marc) Garrard of Fortville; grandchildren, Michael Hutchens of Florida, Zachery (Caitlin) Hutchens of New Castle, Keith (Allison) Garrard of Evansville, Cory Garrard of Indianapolis and Clinton (Megan) Garrard of New Castle; great grandchildren, Alan Hutchens of Florida, Landon & Jazmyn Hutchens both of Selma, Lincoln, Franklin & Katherine Garrard all of Evansville.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Cole, Jr.; foster mother, Theodosia Davis; siblings, Keith Miller, Eileen Bergstrom; foster sisters, Georgeanne Owens, Eleanor Brown and Marjorie Williams; granddaughter, Christa Hutchens.

Services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 30, 2021 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverend Roger Hendricks officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until time of services Saturday at the funeral home.
