Norma Jean Sanders, age 84 of Brazil, IN died Friday, January 20, 2012 at Cloverleaf Healthcare in Knightsville, IN.
She was born September 30, 1927 in New Castle, IN as the daughter of Wm. Daniel and Sally Thurston Carnes. She married Jack Sanders who survives her. She worked as a telephone operator at Indiana Bell for 12 ½ years and at Indiana State University for 15 years. She also worked as a real estate broker. She was a member of First Christian Church of Brazil.
Norma Jean enjoyed gardening, painting, working on her albums, and spending time with her family. She also enjoyed traveling and had the opportunity to visit Rome Italy, Madrid Spain, Switzerland, and France in 1970 with her Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She also celebrated her 50th wedding anniversary in Hawaii.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Jacquilyn Dickison; brothers, Kenneth Carnes and Curtis Carnes; and sister, Jane Evelyne Carnes and great granddaughter, Avery Jayne Dellmo.
She is survived by her husband of over 63 years, Jack Sanders; daughter, Jeanne Dellmo (Gary) of Brazil; brothers, Cordell Carnes (Janice), and Homer Carnes; sister, Lois Davis; grandchildren, Tim Dickison (Stephanie), Leah Racer (David), David Dickison, Deidre Metzinger (Brandon), and Deryse Dellmo; great grandchildren, Luke Racer, Adrianna Racer, Haylee Dickison, and Addysen Dellmo; sister-in-law, Louise Carnes; son-in-law, Burthel Dickison II of Princeton, IN several nieces and nephews, and other extended family.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service with burial to follow at South Mound Cemetery-West Lawn Addition. Visitation will be 4 – 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 24 at Moore Funeral Home in Brazil and noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 25 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle.
