Raymond Vulgan

Raymond “Ray” Vulgan, 79, of New Castle passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at IU Ball Memorial Hospital following an extended illness. He was born on August 27, 1943 in Ford City, PA a son of the late Joseph and Mary (Station) Vulgan.

Ray loved people and spending quality time with his friends and family. Known to be very talented and handy, some of his happiest hours were spent in his workshop building wood projects, welding, repairing chainsaws or working on cars.

Ray was a well-educated man; he graduate of Ford City High School in Ford City, PA, received a Bachelor’s Degree from California State College in California, PA and then his Master’s Degree from Ball State University in Muncie. Ray used his education by teaching at New Castle High School where he was the welding instructor. Following his employment with New Castle High School, Ray took a position with Ivy Tech State College as the Director of Grants and served there until his retirement.

Ray was a member of the St. Anne Catholic Church but also enjoyed community involvement and membership with the Elks and Eagles Lodge, American Legion, AARP, life member of National Rifle Association and Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity.

Ray is survived by his wife of 54 years, Lesley (Bruner) Vulgan of New Castle; sons, A.J. Vulgan of Bradenton, FL and Matthew (Brenda) Vulgan of Greensburg; precious granddaughters, Emery, Hannah and Leah; many cherished friends.

In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his brother, James Vulgan; sister and brother-in-law, Andrew and Lee Ann Lehner; father and mother-in-law, Harry and Doris Bruner; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Per Ray’s request, there will be no public viewing or services. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Donations in Ray’s name may be sent to The Guest House Men’s Shelter, 1407 Walnut St. New Castle, IN 47362. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle.
