Rita J. Greenwood

Rita J. Greenwood, 79, of New Castle passed away Saturday, March 16, 2024 at Henry Community Health. She was born September 6, 1944 in Gulfport, Mississippi to the late Basil Wayne and Lillian Clarice (Werking) Johnson.

Rita was a 1963 graduate of Walter P. Chrysler High School and later worked at RCA in Indianapolis. In previous years, she had also worked for Sears, Hills Department Store, Hooks Drug Store, but retired from Walmart in 2005. Rita enjoyed attending country and bluegrass gospel sing events, sewing, fishing, camping and playing BINGO and Domino’s with her friends at the Senior Center. She was a longtime member of the New Castle Church of Christ. More than anything, Rita enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by three sons, Jimmy Dale Jr. (wife, Julie) Greenwood of Greenfield, Rodney Greenwood of New Castle, and Jerry (wife, Cindie) Greenwood of Greenfield; a daughter, Angie Richey of Huntington; 10 grandchildren, Mike, Zach and Drew Greenwood, Chase, Hope, and Hanna Richey, Trinidy and Colton Fisher, Mitchell Smith and Mason Bogue; 12 great grandchildren; siblings, Barb (husband, Tony) Maynard, Loretta Collier, Linda (husband, Hershel) Roll, Mickey Johnson and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Jimmy Greenwood Sr.

Services will be at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, March 21, 2024 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Phil Morgan officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the service on Thursday. Burial will be at a later date at Hillsboro Cemetery.
