Robert E. Stewart, Jr., age 77, of Foley, AL, and formerly of New Castle, went to Heaven to be with his loving wife, Sue (Brown) Stewart on Saturday, May 20, 2023. He was born August 6, 1945 in Charleston, WV, a son of the late Robert E. and Velma W. (Bolin) Stewart.
An auctioneer for many years in New Castle, Robert owned and operated Ridge Auction and Furniture store and a gun store in New Castle. He retired from Chrysler Corporation in New Castle following over 27 years of service. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in New Castle. He moved to Cumming GA after retirement and lived there for over 9 years, where he was active in the VFW. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he was stationed in the Dominican Republic.
An avid collector of coins, guns, Fenton glass, and other antiques, he was also known to be a “picker”, thoroughly enjoying rummage sales and auctions. For the past 6 years, he lived in Foley, Alabama.
He leaves to cherish his memory, three sons, Dewayne E. (Lesa) Stewart of New Castle, Noel G. (Holly) Stewart of Cumming, GA, and Kelly J. (Sharon) Stewart of Springport; grandchildren, Sarah (Levi) Hicks of New Castle, Billy R. (Vivi) Stewart of Canton, GA, Cori (Matthew) McGrady of Athens, GA, Adam M. Stewart of New Castle, Shelby (Jonnathun) Mouton of Monroe, GA, Morgan O. Stewart, and Mason Stewart, both of Cumming, GA, Carissa D. Stewart of Muncie, and J.P. (Emily) Stewart of Muncie; great grandchildren, Lainie, Jackson, Lilly, Elena, Peter, Noah, Sofi, Liam, Emmy, Madie and Avery; his companion, Shirley McDonald of Foley, AL; a brother, Jerry Lee (Kim) Stewart of New Castle; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Sue (Brown) Stewart in 2011; a brother, John Stewart, and a sister, Betty Stewart.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Rick Davis officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition with military rites conducted by the American Legion and VFW. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. noon until service at the funeral home.
