Ron Zimmerman, age 65, of Spiceland passed away Friday, October 25, 2013 at his residence following a brief illness. He was born February 11, 1948 in Connersville, Indiana, a son of Kenneth and Thelma (Johnson) Zimmerman.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Germany for 18 months. He retired from Citizens State Bank in 2011 after nearly forty years of service, of those forty years he was bank manager at Citizens State Bank in Spiceland for twenty years. Ron was formerly employed at Central State Bank in Connersville. He was past president of the Connersville Boys Club and a member of the Optimist Club in Connersville and the American Christian Men's Association. He was very community oriented and loved the town and people of Spiceland. He was a member of New Castle/Spiceland Lions Club and a major leader and chairman for Spiceland Freedom Days for many years. He was also a member of the American Legion, NRA, Heritage Foundation and an active member of Spiceland Friends Meeting. He enjoyed his white over red 1957 Chevy, motorcycle riding and animals. He enjoyed visiting Graceland, 50's and 60's music, and Elvis.
Survivors include his wife: Debi (Cole) Zimmerman; his father: Kenneth Zimmerman of Connersville and a cousin: Sharon Williams of Connersville.
He was preceded in death by his mother and a brother: David Zimmerman.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at Spiceland Friends Meeting with Reverends David Brock and Cathy Harris officiating. Burial will follow in Circle Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle and one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. Military rites will be conducted by a contingency from the U.S. Army American Legion and VFW.
