Ronald "Ron" L. Decker, 75, a resident of New Castle passed away Monday, February 12, 2024 at Indiana University Health Ball Memorial Hospital with his family by his side. He was born on February 22, 1948 in Muncie, Indiana to the late Henry O. and Nan Decker.
A veteran of the United States Army, he proudly served his country in the Vietnam War. Ron retired from Chrysler Corporation in 2003 after 35 years of service. He was also a bus driver for the New Castle Chrysler Community School System for 20 years. Ron served as Captain of Reserves for the Henry County Sheriff's Department and was a member of the FOP, Elks, Eagles and Moose Lodges. An auto enthusiast, Ron owned Corvettes for over 30 years and was a member of the Anderson Corvette Club. Ron enjoyed yardwork and loved spending time with his family. He was known as a hard worker and a true patriot.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 55 years, Sandra Decker, whom he married March 22, 1968; two sons, Carl (Melissa) Decker of Apollo, PA and Cliff (Wendy) Decker of Fishers, IN; grandchildren, Jordan Decker, Marissa Holmes, Michael Holmes, Austin Decker and Alexis Decker; sisters, Reda (Dan) Stout of Florida and June Jones of Indianapolis; a brother, Donnie Decker of New Castle; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by grandson, Allen Decker; two sisters, Millie Smith and Ruth Williams and a brother, Mike Decker.
Services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, February 16, 2024 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Mark Thompson officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion, VFW, and the United States Army. Burial will follow at South Mound Cemetery, Legion Square. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 pm on Thursday, February 15 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be given to Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516.
