Ronald Fredrick "Ron" Lightfoot

Ronald Fredrick “Ron” Lightfoot, 89, of New Castle passed away Friday, September 1, 2023 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 5, 1934 in New Castle to the late Ronald Charles and Thelma Lorene (Ward) Lightfoot.

A graduate of New Castle High School, Ron earned his Master’s Degree in Education from Ball State University. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and also worked at Baker Pool as a lifeguard for six years. Ron was a retired teacher and principal and Director of Elementary Education for New Castle Community Schools. He chose to go back to teach in the classroom before retirement, where he felt he did the most good. Ron was a former member of the Elks Lodge and Rotary Club in New Castle. An avid outdoorsman, he loved golfing, camping, canoeing and fishing. He also loved caring for his lawn, manicuring it much like a golf course.

Survivors include son, Scott (Susan) Lightfoot of New Castle; daughter, Jody (Darin) Reichart of Spiceland; grandchildren, Ty Mitchell of Greenfield, Jessica (Brian) Thomas of Spiceland, Brady (Samantha) Lightfoot of New Castle and Taylor (Stephen) Fruth of Knightstown; great grandchildren, Isaiah DeWitt, Marlee Lightfoot and "Baby Fruth" due in February; Sister-in-law: Barbara Ward of Spiceland; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Kay Lightfoot on April 16, 2016; mother-in-law and father-in-law: Chet and Pauline Ward and a brother-in-law: Roger Ward.

In accordance with Ron's wishes, services will be held privately for the family at a later date. Memorial contributions may be given to the Ron Lightfoot Scholarship Fund c/o Wilbur Wright Elementary School, 1950 Washington St., New Castle, IN 47362.
