Samuel Shadrick Landis age 63 of Dugger, went to his heavenly home peacefully on September 13, 2016. He was born on Oct.26, 1952 to Samuel and Ethel Landis.
Sam is survived by his wife Debbie of 45 years, one son Derick (Lori) Landis of Sullivan; one daughter Jana (Terry) Crecelius of Dugger; grandchildren, Andrew (A.J.) Snow (his special buddy), Daisy Clark (his sweet Miss Daisy), Brandon (Mary) Hogue and children Emilee, River and Brittney Hogue; two sisters, Kay (Jerry) Hostettler and Geneva Henderson; special brother-in- law, Calvin (Monica) Bedwell; sisters-in-law, Karen Rode, Shirley Landis and Brenda Landis; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Ruby Thomas and two brothers, Danny and Bradley Landis.
He was a member of the Dugger Church of Christ, baptized by James Stone. Sam was a member of UMWA and Dugger Masonic Lodge. He served on the Dugger Council for 16 years. Sam worked for Peabody Coal Jasonville Shops, Lewellyn Engineering, and Wabash Valley Correctional Facility.
He liked camping at Sullivan Lake, spending time with his grandchildren, family and friends. In the past he enjoyed playing pool. He also enjoyed his longtime friendship with Allan Bohnert of Dugger, whom he started grade school with, and weekly visits with Milford and Becky Stone of Linton and all his visitors and friends during his long battle with cancer.
The family has entrusted funeral arrangements to his nephew, John Henderson of Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, 3406 South Memorial Drive, New Castle, IN 47362. Graveside service will be held at the Dugger Cemetery on Friday, September 16, 2016 at 1 p.m. with Pastor Nick Moore and Milford Stone officiating.
