Sandra Elaine Gross, 71, of Shirley, passed away Monday, September 14, 2020 at Frankfort Camp Ministries. She was born April 4, 1949 in Elwood a daughter of John David and Evelyn Mae (Illges) Smith.
Sandra was a 1968 graduate of Anderson Heights High School, and worked at the Anderson Public Library. She loved reading and enjoyed reading stories to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She worked for Estells Ambulance Service as a driver for patients, was manager at Mancinos in New Castle for many years and sold Avon for 27 years. She and her husband traveled and cooked for FLAME for several years, and volunteered at Frankfort Camp Ministries for the last 11 years where she has worked in the bookstore for 25 years. She also served on a work team each year to Hephzibah Children's Home in Macon, GA for 18 years. Sandra was a member of the Grant City Wesleyan Church, Wesleyan Women and Gideons International. She enjoyed crocheting, card making, scrapbooking and especially spending time with her grand babies and great grand babies.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Larry Gross; children, Matt (Brooke) Gross, Darlene Mae Gross and Joseph (Shasta) Gross; grandchildren, D’Andrea (Donavan) McBride, Ashlynn C. (Joshua) White, Courtney Gross, Michael Keith, Jonathan Mukes, Abby Gross and Zoe Gross; great grandchildren, Ashlynn White, Evan White, Darran McBride, Kyler Auxier, Colton Auxier, Ellieanna McBride, Oliver Keith, Stetsan McBride, Emry Keith, Delainie McBride; sister, Shirley Hobbs (Mark) McElhaney; brother, Danny (Mary) Smith; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by great grandson, Keatyn Auxier; brothers, James Smith, Bill (Carole) Smith, Larry Smith, Johnny (Pamela) Smith; father & mother-in-law, Berlin and Darline Gross.
Services will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, September 19, 2020 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel with Pastor Ron Ferguson and Rev. Phil Foley officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 PM Friday. Due to Covid-19 and the governor’s mandate, face coverings will be required.
