Shannon Ann (Mawk) Hagy, 55, formerly of Mooreland and Knightstown passed away Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born February 20, 1966 in Henry County to John and Madonna (Holaday) Mawk, who reside in Mooreland.
A 1984 graduate of Blue River Valley High School, she received her nursing and bachelor’s degrees from Indiana University. Shannon began her nursing career as a neuroscience ICU surgical nurse at IU Health where she worked for 20 years. She later worked at Hancock Regional Hospital and was currently employed at Community East Hospital in Indianapolis. Even in death she was able to help others as she was an organ donor.
A member of South Christian Church in Mooreland, Shannon loved her Lord and sang gospel music. She was very involved with her children’s activities and enjoyed coaching sports. Shannon was chairperson of the baby contest at the Mooreland Free Fair for over 25 years. Her hobbies include gardening, seasonal decorating, babysitting, attending concerts and she loved all types of animals. More than anything, she enjoyed spending time with her family and making them meals for the holidays and special occasions.
Survivors in addition to her parents include a daughter: Mahaley L. Hagy (Aaron J. Tietjan) of Indianapolis; a son: Nolan Wade Hagy of Indianapolis; a granddaughter: Malia Justine Tietjen; a sister: Cynthia Lynn Mawk (Greg Reece) of Indianapolis; the father of her children: Jarrett Hagy; grandparents of her children: Mike and Belinda Hagy; devoted friend, Todd Norfleet; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents: Richard and Louise Holaday and her paternal grandparents: Woodrow Mawk and Irene Mawk.
Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, October 7, 2021 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastors Mark Thompson and Mark Lomison officiating. Burial will follow in Mooreland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 6 at the funeral home and one hour prior to services. Memorial contributions may be given to Blue River Valley Athletic Hall of Fame, Blue River Valley Dollars for Scholars or to the Indiana Donor Network.
