Thomas "Tom" Michael Raines

Thomas “Tom” Michael Raines, 77, of New Castle passed away Sunday, October 8, 2023 at his residence. He was born September 30, 1946 in New Castle to the late Charlie and Pearl (Coyle) Raines.

Thomas joined the US Air Force in 1963 and served during Vietnam until 1967. He was proud to have helped build the SR-71 Blackbird. Thomas was a family-oriented man who loved helping anyone in need. If you were a friend, then you were family. He was also an avid collector and enjoyed collecting coins.

He is survived by four children, Thomas M. Raines Jr., Russell James Raines, Tammy Michelle Wilson and Betty Smith Sidewell; 11 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren and one due soon; former wife, Letha Raines and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings, Inez Asberry, Edith Woodward, Russell Raines, Charlene Edwards and Gladys Raines Gordon and a daughter in law, Julie Ann Raines.

There will be a gathering from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Friday, October 13, 2023 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Military honors will be conducted by contingents from the US Air Force, American Legion and VFW. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warriors.
