Thomas E. Wilkinson, 92, of Knightstown passed away Friday, May 24, 2013 at Glen Oaks Health Campus in New Castle. He was born May 19, 1921 in Henry County a son of Ayne and Zella (Estell) Wilkinson.
He graduated from Cadiz High School in 1939 and from Purdue University in 1943. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater, Australia and in occupied Japan. He was interested in American history, particularly the Civil War.
He enjoyed the family farm, a Hoosier Homestead in Harrison Township with his father and brother, Gene. He liked nature and enjoyed visiting state parks to observe wildlife.
In 1950, after returning home from service, he and his brother, Gene, started Wilkinson Implement Company in Knightstown selling Allis-Chalmers farm equipment as well as other types of farm equipment. The business closed in 2000.
Survivors include his wife: Marjorie Wilkinson of Knightstown; a son: Michael Wilkinson of Indianapolis; a sister: Jane Gwinn of Lapel; three nieces, four nephews, several cousins and great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother: Gene Wilkinson; sister-in-law: Virginia Wilkinson; and brother-in-law: Donald Gwinn.
Services will be at 1:00 PM Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel with Richard Thayer officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Knightstown American Legion Post 152 and an active duty contingent of the U.S. Army. Friends may call from 11:00 AM until time of service.
