Wayne "Clifford" Mastin

January 13, 1937 — August 18, 2017

Wayne “Clifford” Mastin, 80, lifelong resident of New Castle, went to be with his Lord and Savior Friday, August 18, 2017 at The Waters. He was born January 13, 1937 in Millville, Indiana, the son of Herbert D. and Margie (Warner) Mastin, Sr.

Clifford had a wonderful childhood growing up in a loving family of ten children. His favorite memories were with his brothers and sisters sledding on Zetterberg Hill, Easter egg hunts at Memorial Park and being a Patrol Boy as school. Through the years, his favorite weekend activity was camping with his wife, family and friends, and riding on his golf cart. He bowled in the Men’s league and mixed bowling league. He loved watching NASCAR racing and caring for his cat Sugar.

As a teen, he got his first job at the Best Ever Dairy and saved his money to buy a red motor scooter to ride to work and school. The experience gave him lifelong work ethics. He worked at the New Castle State Hospital for 38 years and retired from Knightstown Soldier and Sailors home in 2003.

Clifford was a loving quiet man that loved Jesus. He was a member of the South Memorial Drive Church of God serving as a greeter Sundays and volunteered in various projects including the Food Pantry. When he became unable to do the physical work, he came in to give moral support to his church family.

Clifford is survived by his loving wife, Alice; a brother, Jerry Mastin; two sisters, Josephine Walters and Norma (Sterlie) Dishman; sisters-in-law, Elsie, Libby and Rose Mary Mastin, all of New Castle, Marilyn Shore of Hagerstown and Carol Soper of New Castle; brother-in-law, Roger (Renee) Colyer of Florida; extended family in Michigan and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his twin brother, William Clyde and wife Arvella; brothers, Herbert Dewey, Jr., John and wife Vi, James Edward, and Larry Eugene, Sr.; sister, Jane and husband Ralph Estelle; brothers –in-law, Virgil Walters and Jim Shore; sisters-in-law, Marlene Mastin and Margaret Hungerford Mastin.
