William Y. "Bud" Shell, age 89, of Muncie and formerly of New Castle, passed away Monday, October 14, 2013 at IU Health Ball Hospital in Muncie. He was born August 31, 1924 in Jefferson City, Tennessee to the late Charles and Rhonda (Fain) Shell.
A veteran of the United States Marine Corps, he served during World War II. He retired from H&H Distributors in Daleville and had formerly worked at the Ford dealership in New Castle as a mechanic. Bud was a member of the AMA in Muncie and enjoyed flying model airplanes. A pilot, he owned his own airplane and also enjoyed cycling.
Survivors include his wife, Iris Eileen Shell; a son, Charles (Traci) Shell of Jonesboro, AR; step children, Cindy (Rick) Clark of Muncie, Jill (Roger) Hodson of Parker City, Tim (Denise) Short of Martinsville, Doug (Cindy) Short of Muncie and Jeff (Fran) Short of Muncie; nineteen grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty; a daughter, Susan Younce and baby; a step daughter, Sandy Schuchman; two sisters and one brother.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Danny Goddard officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. You may express condolences or share a memory of Bud at
