Abbie Thompson

April 18, 1909 — October 26, 2009

Abbie L. Thompson, age 100, of rural New Castle, went to be with the Lord, Monday, October 26, 2009 at Henry County Hospital. She was born April 18, 1909 in Gap Creek, Kentucky to the late Clayborn and Lizzie (Frost) Massengale.

Abbie was a founding member of the Westview Church of the Nazarene. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, spending time with her friends and being with her family. In later years Abbie diligently attended Union Suppers.

Survivors include her son: Bob (wife: Correna) Thompson of New Castle; daughter: Peggy Sue Boling of Kennard; five grandchildren: Mark (wife: Marilyn) Thompson of New Castle, Matthew (wife: Susie) Thompson of New Castle, Tonda Counceller of Indianapolis, Teresa (husband: Neil) Armstrong of New Castle, Deana (husband: Wade) Gorman of Dunreith; twelve great grandchildren: Amanda (husband: Josh) Huss, Brandon (wife: Jamie) Thompson, Betsy Thompson, Emily Thompson, Josh (wife: Carla) Counceller, Rachel Counceller, Caleb Armstrong, Hannah Armstrong, Shelby Gorman, Dylan Gorman, Rylee Baker, and Jayden Gorman; five great-great grandchildren: Sylvia and Evelyn Huss, Alec and Tryston Thompson, Jessie Dean Hess and one more on the way; two sisters: Mallie Wright of Russell Springs, KY and Leah Marcum of Albany, KY; brother: Les Massengale of New Castle; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: James E. “Ed” Thompson; daughter: Evelyn Thompson; three sisters: Mattie Neal, Mary Thrasher and Helma Williams and two brothers: Caleb and Jimmy Massengale.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 30, 2009 at Westview Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Paul Riddle officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, October 29, 2009 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle.
