Alan D. Gard, 54, of Mooreland passed away Sunday, June 15, 2014 at I.U. Ball Memorial Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in New Castle on January 20, 1960 to Gary J. and Darlene Gard of Mooreland.
Alan was an avid bowler and an inductee of the New Castle Bowling Hall of Fame. He has one perfect game of 300 and several scores of 299 and 298 throughout the years. Alan, along with Jeff Clark, won a Sr. State Doubles Bowling Championship. He also averaged well over 200 for the past 20 years. Alan also enjoyed golfing, darts, shooting pool, and throwing horseshoes.
He was a 1978 graduate of Blue River Valley High School and had been employed over the years at the Rose Bowl, Metaldyne, Gard’s Roofing, and most recently New Castle Foam Rubber.
In addition to his parents Alan is survived by his brother: Scott (Tammy) Gard of Mooreland, nephews: Jeremy Gard of Mooreland and Justin (Lauren) Gard of New Palestine, aunts: Carolyn (Cecil) Cooper of New Castle and Jacque Gard of Mooreland, uncle: Gerald “Buck” (Betty) Gard of New Castle, aunts: Marlene(Ray) Sexton of Lake Placid, FL, Marjorie (Bob) Shelton of Mooreland and several cousins.
Alan is preceded in death by his sister: Nikki Gard, maternal grandparents: Paul and Louise Tucker, paternal grandparents: Kenneth and Cathlene Gard, uncles: Gene and George Gard.
Services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Burial will follow in Mooreland Cemetery.
