Alma Jean Cross

Alma Jean Cross, 84, of Muncie (formerly of Mooreland) passed away on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 18, 1939, in Darke County, OH, to the late Ray and Alice (Baker) Bruner.

She was a 1957 graduate of Center High School in Selma, IN. On June 2, 1957, she married the love of her life Donald Cross. Alma worked for Agri Services in Losantville before retiring from Muncie Aviation. She sold Avon for many years in the area. In 1976, Alma received a kidney transplant from her sister, Mary, which was to give Alma 10 more years with her family, but with the miracle from God, it gave her so many more years with her family allowing her to enjoy and fiercely love her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and even her great-great grandchildren. Alma enjoyed crafting and ceramics, playing cards, gardening and sewing. Along with her husband they built their own house where Alma did all the electrical and painting. Alma loved making pumpkin pies for the holidays and apple dumplings in the fall. She was a member of the Buck Creek Church of the Brethren. 

Alma is survived by her husband of 67 years, Donald; children, Mark (Leslie) Cross, Robin (Jim) Box and Gary Cross; grandchildren, Ryan Cross, Andrew (Tonya) Cross, Lindsey (Dean) Baker, Rebekah (Yanni) Stavretis, Chris Box and Branden Box; great grandchildren, Lena, Ryan Jr., Sara, Nick, Bradley (Samarah), Connor, Izac, Izabella, Aalayah-Lynn, Jaiden, Karyssa, Zoey, Reese, Annabelle and Keegan; great-great grandchildren, Legend, Legacy and Olivia; brothers, Grover Bruner, Jim (Cheryl) Bruner and John (Linda) Bruner; along with several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents Alma is preceded in death by her in-laws, Neva and Frank Cross; granddaughter, Bryanne Box; sisters, Betty Wilt and Mary Bolyard; sisters-in-law, Gaye and Barbara Bruner.

The family would love to give a special thank you to Heart to Heart Hospice and Fresenius Kidney Care dialysis for the love and care they gave Alma.

Services will be on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Burial will follow at Mooreland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
