Alta Mae Akers

Alta Mae Akers, age 88, of Middletown, passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at Millers Merry Manor in Middletown after an extended illness. She was born July 29, 1922 in Salt Lick, Kentucky to the late David G. and Lida (Williams) Staton.

She had lived in Salt Lick, Kentucky for 28 years, and in the New Castle area for 55 years prior to moving to Middletown. She had worked at Smith Jeweler for 17 years. She was a member of First Assembly of God in New Castle. She enjoyed gardening and reading her Bible everyday.

Survivors include her children, Brenda (husband, David) Weber of Middletown, and J.D. (wife, Connie) Akers of Parker City; four grandchildren, Susan Sanders of Anderson, Todd (wife, Jenny) Akers of Cleveland, TN, Adam (wife, Kim) Stinson of Indianapolis, Mandy (husband, Andy) Bly of Parker City; several great and great-great grandchildren; brother, Ralph (wife, Joy) Staton; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Joe and Anna Higgins and Bob and Bev Baker.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Roy Akers; sister, Naomi McFarland.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 8, 2011 at First Assembly of God, 3600 S. Memorial Drive, New Castle, IN with Pastor Steve Gallaway officiating. Burial will follow in Mooreland Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Friday, January 7, 2011 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle and one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be given to Shepherds Door Food Pantry, or God’s Grain Bin. Online condolences may be expressed at www.hinsey-brown.com .
