Alta J. Widvey, 74, of Shirley passed away Saturday, August 28, 2010 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield. She was born June 25, 1936 in Bunger, Texas to the late E. A. and Nova Ree (Ashby) Bishop.
Alta married her husband, Merle “Phil†Widvey, in 1963 and was happily married until his death in 2009. She had been employed by, local attorney, Willard Avery for over thirty years until her retirement in 1984. Alta had received several awards over the years as “Woman of the Year†for her commitment to community service.
She was survived by her sister: Verlyn (husband: Richard) Wilson of Wilkinson; her brother: Terrell Vaughn Bishop of Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Merle “Phil†Widvey; and her brother: James Bishop.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service- Knightstown Chapel with Reverend Ken Wells officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery. Friends may call from 11:00 until the time of service on Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be given to the Arthritis Foundation, P.O.
