Ann Lou Steele

April 17, 1921 — December 22, 2009

Ann Lou (Butler) Steele, age 88, of New Castle passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at Henry County Hospital. She was born April 17, 1921 in Albany, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Almer Ryan and Susan Tabitha (Farmer) Butler.

She moved to Xenia, Ohio in 1966, and moved back to New Castle in 1999. She was a member of Eastern Star of Otter Creek Lodge, Gap Creek, Kentucky. In 1956 she joined Christian Union Community Chapel in Monticello, Kentucky and is a member of the Greensboro Church of the Nazarene.

Survivors include her children: Jimmy (wife: Judy) Hicks of New Castle, Madonna (husband: Brad) Smith of Spiceland and Larry Hicks of Monticello, Kentucky; fifteen grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; two step children: Penny Hedrick of New Castle and Dale Steele; two step grandchildren; two sisters: Mary Eva Brown of New Castle and Ruth (husband: Bill) Kinsey of Kokomo; sisters and brothers-in-law: Robert (wife: Peggy) Steele of Xenia, OH, Kenneth (wife: Barb) Steele of Jamestown, OH, Norma Avera of Vincennes, IN and Ann (husband: Don) Neal of Dayton, OH; and several nieces, nephews and many friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Harold D. Steele, March 26, 1999; two sons: Kenneth Paul and Billy Gene Hicks; a daughter: Mildred Sue Grider; a sister: Bercie M. Yorkand a baby sister: Geneva Ina Butler; four brothers: Roscoe Butler, Earl Butler, Willard Butler and Delmer Ryan “Shine” Butler; a daughter-in-law: Pat Hicks; two brothers-in-law: Reverend Otto C. Brown and James Catron; stepson: Curtis E. Steele.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 28, 2009 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverend Gene Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery Tuesday, December 29, 2009 in Xenia, Ohio. Friends may call from 3-6 p.m. Sunday, December 27, 2009 at the funeral home.
