Anna "June" Owens

February 3, 1927 — February 22, 2016

Anna “June” Owens, 89, of New Castle passed away Monday, February 22, 2016 at Henry County Hospital. She was born February 3, 1927 in Albany, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Jesse Morton Benjamin and Erby Mae (Thrasher) Taylor.

June was formerly employed at New Castle Products (later Modernfold Industries) in New Castle. Not only did June enjoy attending church services, but she loved working within the church. She especially enjoyed the years she worked at church camps with the United Brethren Church. She has attended the Greensboro United Methodist Church for the last several years.

Among many things, gardening and yard work were a great passion to June. She couldn’t walk by a weed without pulling it or a stick without picking it up. She was also known in her community for sharing “starts” of her flowers with whomever she could. She especially enjoyed her summer home in Kentucky, where she planted flowers all down the road, wherever she felt they were needed.

Survivors include a daughter, Deborah Ann (Donnie) Pyle of New Castle; grandchildren Douglas Owen (Amanda) Pyle of Shirley and DeAnna Lauren (Jeff) Watterson of New Castle; great grandchildren, Caleb Owen Pyle and Connor Douglas Pyle, both of Shirley, Lauren Abigail and Caroline Isabelle “Izzy” Watterson, both of New Castle; brother-in-law, Phil (Jenny) Owens of New Castle; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, James “Jim” H. Owens; a daughter, Linda Faye Owens; and siblings, William “Buster” Taylor, Horace Taylor, Clara Taylor, Georgia Gibson, Evelyn Willis and Dean Malone.

Services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 26, 2016 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Services in New Castle with Pastor Cynthia Upchurch officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery West Lawn Addition. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
